Singapore enterprises expanding into China can now unlock greater opportunities with the help of the Lien Chinese Enterprise Resource Centre. Started by the Lien Foundation and the Nanyang Technological University, the Centre will spearhead research on Chinese enterprise and promote a better understanding of Chinese enterprise behavior and strategy.

The Foundation championed the cause for the dying and rallied the Singapore Hospice Council to initiate a first-ever awareness campaign to increase public awareness of hospice care and expose the misperceptions surrounding hospices. In addition to the campaign, scholarships and fellowships to train doctors and nurses in hospice palliative care were also started by the Foundation as part of the overall S$2m effort in the area of hospice care.

Students at Ngee Ann Polytechnic now have a chance to advance their studies overseas with interest-free loans and bursaries provided by the S$10.5m endowment fund, dubbed the “Lien Ying Chow Education Initiative”. Each year, eight to 10 interest free loans of up to S$50,000 and 200 bursaries of S$1500-$2000 will be offered to needy and bright students. Lien Ying Chow’s historic ties with Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s predecessor, Ngee Ann College, is reiterated in this first-of-its kind initiative that aims to ensure a good education is within the reach of students who face financial challenges. The fund received S$5m from the Lien Foundation, with Ngee Ann Polytechnic matching dollar for dollar.

The Lien Foundation and Xrgomics, a mobility solutions specialist company have re-engineered home nursing and hospice care with the creation of a first of its kind e-mobile information solution. The breakthrough in harnessing ICT in the non-profit sector increased productivity and portability, and boosted the image of home care nurses and doctors.

The Lien Foundation, partnered The Salvation Army to start Singapore’s first
ever hostel-type facility for early dementia residents, the Hope Resident Living
Area (RLA) at Peacehaven Nursing Home on 17 June 2006. The 34-bed facility in
Changi provides a new concept of care for early dementia residents where they
are empowered to make their own decisions and participate in activities at their
liberty. This takes place in a conducive communal living environment designed
to maximize independence, reinforce personal identity and enhance self-esteem
and confidence – key early intervention factors to the progress of dementia.

water and sanitation infrastructure for communities in need.

Hospices offer terminally-ill patients comfort and specialised care, a fact that is lost on 7 out of 10 respondents in a survey commissioned by the Singapore Hospice Council. With Lien Foundation’s donation of S$800,000 to fund a publicity campaign for hospice palliative care, the people in Singapore will learn more about the concept of hospice, and how the terminally-ill and their loved ones can optimise the time they have left.

The Singapore Hospice Council is collaborating with the Lien Foundation on a
S$2-million project to raise public awareness of hospice palliative care. The
amount of S$1.2 million will be used for fellowships and scholarships to train
doctors and nurses in this area of specialty, whilst the balance will be used
to fund an inaugural awareness-raising campaign.

The Lien Foundation has established the Lien Foundation Centre for Social Innovation
at the Singapore Management University – Asia’s first centre for social innovation.
The collaboration is part of the “the foundation’s ongoing commitment to non-profit
governance and management, philanthropic giving, corporate social responsibility
and community outreach,” said Laurence Lien, Governor of the Lien Foundation.
