Lien Collaborative For Palliative Care
WHAT IS THE LIEN COLLABORATIVE FOR PALLIATIVE CARE?
The Lien Collaborative for Palliative Care is a regional initiative co-developed with the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network (APHN) to enhance capacity for palliative care services provision in selected Asian countries with little or no such services.
The APHN is an NGO registered with a regional membership of about 200 organisations and over 1,000 individuals in active support.
WHAT EXACTLY DOES THE INITIATIVE SET OUT TO DO?
It aims to spearhead the development of palliative care capabilities and build up a core interdisciplinary group of clinicians capable of training others and act as champions for palliative care within those countries.
This is carried out through a three-pronged approach of in-country training of trainers programme; overseas clinical fellowship; and essential medications programme.
WHERE HAS IT BEEN IMPLEMENTED SO FAR?
Started in 2013, the four-year programme has since been launched in Myanmar and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka is the third of four countries to join the initiative, on the back of funding from a Sri Lankan donor.
