Environmental Endeavour II
BEFORE WE START ON ENDEAVOUR II, HOW ABOUT A QUICK RECAP ON ENDEAVOUR I?
We envision a better Asia with clean water and sanitation. A highlight of this vision is Environmental Endeavour, a collaboration with the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to improve the living conditions of Asia’s developing communities through technology-based developmental work.
In the second chapter, the Foundation announced the Environmental Endeavour 2 in 2010 with renewed commitments to this cause.
SO WHAT IS DIFFERENT IN PHASE II?
In this phase, administration is transferred to the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute (NEWRI), a research powerhouse that unified NTU’s environmental and water technologies efforts.
The Lien Institute for the Environment was restructured into the Lien Environmental Fellowship, which reached out to early and mid-career academics in the region who are passionate about improving water sanitation and environmental sustainability in their own communities under the mentorship of NTU’s academics.
Lien AID will focus on bringing clean water and sanitation to rural communities in Cambodia, China and Vietnam. In 2014, it has been structured to become aan independent entity. To date, it has built 1,339 water facilities and 21,704 toilets, benefiting close to 600,000 direct beneficiaries. On the part of the Foundation, we have renewed our support to Lien AID for a further five years.
