Area of Focus: Education
Partnership agency: Nanyang Technological University
Conceptualised & Initiated by Lien Foundation
Leadership used to be a hit and miss affair. Today, with greater resources available, leaders can be spotted and nurtured to give them a leg up.
With the intention of contributing to the worldwide effort to develop potential leaders, the Lien Foundation has established the Lien Ying Chow Legacy Fellowship in the tradition of the illustrious international scholarships, such as the Eisenhower Fellowship.
A joint collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the Lien Legacy Fellowship focuses its efforts on outstanding Chinese and Singaporeans to honour the life and aspirations of the man who made it possible – Dr Lien Ying Chow.
Banker, philanthropist and diplomat, he remained sentimentally attached all his life to the land of his birth, China. He left its shores at the age of 10 and spent most of his life in Singapore, the land of opportunity, where he put down his roots.
The Lien Legacy Fellowship continues his lifelong concern for the welfare of China and Singapore, by promoting the professional advancement and personal development of established and emerging leaders from the two countries.
At the same time, the Lien Legacy Fellowship seconds the desire of Dr Lien to build bridges between the countries closest to his heart. As an exchange programme, it provides cross border exposure to generate goodwill and deepen understanding among their leaders. With this in mind, a key feature is the opportunity for Fellows to network with renowned experts in their field of interest as well as among past and present alumni.
Conceptualised as a three-month programme of individualised coursework, seminars and mentoring, it provides a common foundation course in:
- Government and Public Administration and Business Policy
- Leadership
- Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Enterprise
- Sustainable Social and Cultural Development
With an eye to practical outcomes in keeping with the pragmatic character of Dr Lien, the Lien Legacy Fellowship requires Fellows to work on a viable solution for a particular need or potential issue.
