vision & mission |
The Lien Foundation is committed to:
- Lead
- Innovate
- Empower
and
- Network
for the benefit of society.
Lead
The Foundation takes the lead in formulating strategic partnerships and activities to deliver practical, sustainable solutions for society’s benefit. We seek out partners – be it nonprofits, enterprises, individuals or the government - and work closely with them to come up with innovative solutions and projects with long-term potential and returns to the society.
Innovate
The Foundation spearheads and mobilises resources as a catalyst of change for a better future. We push boundaries and look for new ways of addressing urgent needs and critical gaps. We are not simply confined to a “donor-sponsor” role. Our model of radical philanthropy means we are usually actively involved in our projects from conception to fruition.
Empower
The Foundation believes in empowering the society and individuals to operate at their maximum capacity. Where possible, our projects will include a range of training programmes targeted at various sectors of the community in need. We equip community leaders with the know-how to tackle problems, and initiate change from within. This will benefit the community at large, and contribute to sustainable development.
Network The Foundation is well positioned to convene the cross-pollination of ideas amongst the non-profit, private and government sectors. As convenor and nexus, we often match the needs of marginalised groups to relevant expertise, creating new solutions and possibilities for society’s advancement.
The Foundation’s key areas of focus are Education, Eldercare and the Environment. Within these areas, we seek to enhance:
- Educational opportunities for the disadvantaged and development of nascent fields of study
- Excellence in eldercare
- Environmental sustainability in water and sanitation.
Education
Education is a key tenet of society – moulding the future, creating opportunities and shaping the next generation. The Lien Foundation advocates education as an agent of change and empowerment. We support educational programmes and projects with potential for long-term benefits to the society. For example, we are developing leadership and capacity within Singapore’s non-profit sector.
Excellence in Eldercare
Singapore’s demographics show a rapidly aging population. The number of
those aged 65 and above who live alone has risen from 15,000
to 22,000 in the past five years. By 2030, one in five people
here will be over 65, compared to about one in 12 now¹.
There is an urgent need to ensure a better understanding of
age-related diseases, and corresponding availability of good
quality eldercare services and facilities. The Lien Foundation
supports innovative models of eldercare, particularly in areas
like dementia care and palliative care as these have great
impact on the elderly and their families/caregivers.
Environmental Sustainability in Water and Sanitation
Access to clean and affordable water supplies, sanitation and hygiene is fundamental to human health and dignity, economic advancement and poverty eradication². Yet, almost a fifth of the world’s population does not have safe drinking water, and over 30 per cent lack basic sanitation. The Lien Foundation focuses on environmental sustainability in water and sanitation by working with partners on facility design and installation, water management, knowledge transfer and capacity building.
